How do I place an order?
You’re welcome to stop by our shop so we can discuss your request in person. But if you prefer, you can complete the Order Request Form, give us a call (773.492.8151) during normal business hours, or email us at Adriana@simplysweetonline.com. Please provide the following information:
- Event Date
- Pickup/Delivery (location info)
- Number of guests you are expecting along with party theme and any design ideas you may have (feel free to attach pictures of designs you like as inspiration)
- Flavor/Fillings preferences
- Allergy restrictions or other special requests
With this information, we can provide an estimate for your custom order. We respond to all email requests within 1-2 business days. In order to confirm/book your order, we require a 50% deposit made via cash or credit/debit card on our website or at our shop. Deposits are NON-REFUNDABLE. We accept all major credit cards EXCEPT American Express. Personal check or other forms of payment are not accepted.
How much lead time is needed to place an order?
We recommend placing your order at least 1-2 weeks in advance (maybe more if it requires handmade flowers, figurines, toppers, edible images, etc.) so we have enough time to make them or special order them.
Where are you located? Do you deliver?
We are located at 5712 W 95th Street in Oak Lawn, IL. We are on the North side of 95th Street, across from Frankie’s Beef and next to a State Farm office. Parking is available in back of our building and right in front of our building on 95th Street. Delivery starts at $40 within 8 miles of our shop. Additional setup fees apply to sweet tables, cupcake towers, and weddings.
Are you really completely peanut and tree-nut free?
YES!! We carefully choose our products and ensure that they are not manufactured in facilities with nuts to prevent cross-contamination. We don’t allow any nuts on our premises.
What sweets are readily available for pickup?
We are a custom cake shop so all of our cakes must be pre-ordered. However, we have a variety of gourmet cupcakes, cake pops, sugar cookies, chocolate chip cookies, and brownies on hand and available for walk-in purchase. We make a small batch of vegan and gluten free cupcakes and cookies daily. But if you’re looking for a dozen or more, please give us a call! For custom orders, please give us a call at least 1 week in advance. We try to accommodate last minute requests as best we can, but limit our orders per weekend so we can maintain our quality of work.
What are your most popular cake flavors?
Our most popular combinations are:
- Banana cake with dulce de leche buttercream filling (A must-try!!)
- Chocobanana cake with strawberry or chocolate buttercream filling
- Vanilla cake with oreo buttercream filling
- Chocolate cake with coconut or raspberry buttercream filling
You may choose one cake flavor and filling combination per cake tier. Each cake tier is about 4-5” high and consists of 2 layers of cake and 1 (thick) layer of buttercream filling in between.
Do you offer sheet cakes?
No we currently do not offer sheet cakes (which are usually 2-3” high and are decorated with whipped cream). All of our cakes are 4-5” high and consist of 2 layers of cake and 1 (thick) layer of buttercream filling in between.
Do you offer tastings?
We only offer tastings as part of wedding consultations. There is a non-refundable $25 fee for wedding consultations, which is applied towards your order if you decide to book with us. Wedding tastings include 3-4 flavor combinations. If you are looking for a birthday or other celebration cake, you’re welcome to purchase cupcakes from what we have on hand, which are made from the same batter as our cakes and frosted with our Italian merengue buttercream filling.
Do you offer sugar-free or low-fat sweets? Do you offer whipped-cream cakes?
No, we currently don’t use any sugar substitutes. All of our cakes are covered in our Italian merengue buttercream. We do not offer whipped cream. However, our Italian merengue buttercream frosting/filling is very light/fluffy since it’s made with cooked sugar and egg whites (not confectioner’s sugar like most American buttercreams). It has the consistency of a whipped cream or a mousse (when left at room temperature).
Fondant vs. Buttercream – do you make your own marshmallow fondant?
Many clients who have previously had a bad experience with fondant say it was too thick and sweet… “looks great but tastes awful.” At Simply Sweet Creations, almost everything is made onsite including our buttercream and all our cake flavors. However, we do not make our own fondant – we use Satin Ice Fondant for all our cakes, cupcakes & cookies. Fondant is sweet because it tastes like marshmallows. But we cover our cakes in vanilla buttercream first, and then put a thin layer of rolled fondant on top. Most of our clients like the taste and we leave it fairly thin since we have a fondant sheeter. Fondant looks really smooth and allows us to make a variety of designs, from ruffles to edible flowers and figurines….basically edible playdough. 🙂
When and how often do you offer cake/cupcake decorating classes?
Our fun decorating classes are usually held during our off-peak season (Oct-March), around the holidays (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Valentine’s Day and Easter). Classes are held in our commercial kitchen so we post open openings about 2-3 weeks prior to the class date.
